if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Some folks do not have a current veterinarian for their senior or ill pet, and they need advice to decide if euthanasia is the kindest choice or if other options are available. During a quality-of-life consultation, in addition to an examination, we ask a lot of questions regarding symptoms and available in-home support. By considering all these variables, we make a recommendation based on the best interest of your companion.
Our patient first receives a generous dose of a narcotic/sedative/dissociative cocktail given under the skin (like a vaccine). Most dogs and cats don't notice or seem to mind this injection. For those who do notice, the good news is that the shot is over quickly.
This injection usually takes 5-15 minutes to effect. It relieves anxiety and pain, and causes non-rousable sleep.
Once our patient is no longer responsive to stimuli, we administer an overdose of Pentobarbital in the vein. We do not place an IV catheter. The overdose first puts the brain to sleep permanently. The breathing stops and then the heart stops. Because the brain is gone before the heart stops, there is no cognition, there is no pain.
Our goal is to make this process as peaceful as possible for all present.
For every Euthanasia, there is also a Housecall fee that covers our travel time.
Our Housecall fee is determined by one-way mileage to your home from our base near the Deming Log Show grounds (using Google Maps):

10.1 - 15 miles $ 90

We work with two cremation companies, and we trust them both.
WEST COAST PET MEMORIAL SERVICE:
We've been working with these folks since we started this practice. The crematorium is located in Snohomish County and provides both Communal and Individual Flame Cremation.
You pay us for West Coast's services, and the fee includes us transporting your pet from your home and making all the arrangements.
If you chose an Individual Cremation, the fee includes us bringing your pet's ashes home in your choice of urn and a free clay pawprint. Please see the seperate section for West Coast for Individual Cremation options.*
RADIANT HEART:
We've been working with Radiant Heart since they opened in 2013. They are located in Bellingham. They offer aquamation in addition to traditional flame cremation. They offer an exceptional array of after-care options. Please see https://radiant-heart.net/ for their offerings. We provide an identification tag and paperwork, but you will work directly with them and pay them seperately for after-care services.
If you need us to provide transport, please let us know when making the euthanasia appointment so that we set aside appropriate time.
When using West Coast for aftercare, we make all the arrangements. Aftercare is based on type desired and weight of your pet.
Communal cremation: pets are cremated in a group and their ashes are spread on private property in the Cascades.

Your pet is cremated individually in their own steel tray, and their ashes are returned to you in your choice of 8 complimentary urns (see below). The aftercare package also includes a clay paw print impression. It takes about 10-14 days to return your pet's ashes to your home.

No. Many folks only use our service for in-home euthanasia. Most dogs and cats are anxious when they travel to a veterinary hospital and some large dogs are no longer able to get into a car. In home euthanasia removes or can greatly reduce your pet's stress when the time comes to say goodby.
Our average wait time for euthanasia service or quality-of-life consult is 3 business days: Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Closed Wednesday for out-patient surgery.
