EUTHANASIA AND QUALITY OF LIFE

Please reach us at 360-592-9127 OR cedargrovevet@gmail.com

if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Some folks do not have a current veterinarian for their senior or ill pet, and they need advice to decide if euthanasia is the kindest choice or if other options are available. During a quality-of-life consultation, in addition to an examination, we ask a lot of questions regarding symptoms and available in-home support. By considering all these variables, we make a recommendation based on the best interest of your companion.

Our patient first receives a generous dose of a narcotic/sedative/dissociative cocktail given under the skin (like a vaccine). Most dogs and cats don't notice or seem to mind this injection. For those who do notice, the good news is that the shot is over quickly.

This injection usually takes 5-15 minutes to effect. It relieves anxiety and pain, and causes non-rousable sleep.

Once our patient is no longer responsive to stimuli, we administer an overdose of Pentobarbital in the vein. We do not place an IV catheter. The overdose first puts the brain to sleep permanently. The breathing stops and then the heart stops. Because the brain is gone before the heart stops, there is no cognition, there is no pain.

Our goal is to make this process as peaceful as possible for all present.

For every Euthanasia, there is a Housecall fee for our travel time.

Our Housecall fee is determined by one-way mileage to your home from our base near the Deming Log Show grounds (using Google Maps):

No. Many folks only use our service for in-home euthanasia. Most dogs and cats are anxious when they travel to a veterinary hospital and some large dogs are no longer able to get into a car. In home euthanasia removes or can greatly reduce your pet's stress when the time comes to say goodby.

Yes. Just ask.

Our average wait time for euthanasia service or quality-of-life consult is 3 business days: Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Closed Wednesday for out-patient surgery.
